A photo exhibition inaugurated recently at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center recalled the relationship between the Historic Leader of the Cuban Revolution and the newspaper Granma, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of that organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the newspaper itself stated from its pages.

The exhibition, titled Granma in the Mystique of Fidel, brings together 20 images ranging from the newspaper’s front page to snapshots in which the Commander in Chief appears reading its pages.

Yoerky Sánchez Cuéllar, director of Granma, stated that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz considered the newspaper a general staff at crucial moments, including the assassination of Che Guevara, the Ten Million Harvest, the earthquake in Peru, the Mariel boatlift, and the attacks on Cuban fishermen.

According to the testimony collected by journalist Juan Marrero in his book “Two Centuries of Journalism in Cuba,” Fidel participated in the editorial dynamics, proposed titles, reviewed page proofs, and shared time with reporters until the first copies were published.

Tubal Páez, Honorary President of the Union of Cuban Journalists, affirmed that Fidel was also a journalist who risked his life writing, which is a source of pride for the profession on the island.

At the opening of the exhibition, Sissi Abay Díaz, deputy director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, emphasized that hosting the exhibition is a privilege in the context of the newspaper’s anniversary and the activities commemorating the centennial of the Commander in Chief.

The official emphasized that Granma has defended the truth for six decades and maintains the capacity to bring the history of Fidel and the nation to every corner of the country.

The opening of the exhibition is part of the activities organized to celebrate the centennial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, an event that brings together the country’s cultural and political institutions to highlight his historical legacy.
