International Solidarity Multiplies in Support of Cuba

by Ed Newman

The international solidarity movement with Cuba is multiplying its strength and actions in response to new U.S. government measures of “maximum economic pressure” against the island—including an energy blockade—affirmed Noemí Rabaza Fernández, First Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

She highlighted the countless actions undertaken by solidarity associations—totaling more than 1,800 across over 150 nations—alongside a myriad of trade unions, youth groups, peasant organizations, religious bodies, prominent figures, and activists from the most varied spheres; these groups oppose imperial hegemony, abuse, and criminality, while advocating for justice and peace, she noted.

In the face of the boycott on oil supplies to Cuba, initiatives immediately emerged in numerous countries; within the United States itself, campaigns were launched to fund the shipment of solar panels and other resources, Rabaza Fernández pointed out.

Among the countless actions already carried out—and which are set to continue—she cited protests held outside U.S. embassies and consulates, public street mobilizations, the projection of messages onto the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, the collection and shipment of donations, public appeals and declarations, the circulation of open letters bearing thousands of signatures, and extensive campaigns across social media platforms to refute slanderous claims against Cuba.

In the current complex global landscape—marked by unleashed imperial ambitions and a disregard for international norms and laws—Cuba stands more supported by the peoples of the world than ever before; it is deeply grateful for this backing, which serves as an invaluable source of encouragement in its unwavering determination to resist external pressures in defense of its sovereignty and dignity, she stated.
