“Let Cuba Breathe”: New Documentary Campaign Highlights the Impact of the Blockade on the Daily Lives of Cubans

by Ed Newman

With the aim of breaking the silence and showing the reality faced by the Cuban population in the face of the unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Trump administration, the “Let Cuba Breathe” campaign has been launched.

Through a series of documentary videos, the initiative will give voice to doctors, patients, and families who are experiencing firsthand the consequences of this suffocating policy.

The campaign, whose launch is announced on February 14, aims to be a platform for those suffering the harsh measures imposed by the United States. In a context where the executive order signed by President Donald Trump on January 29 seeks to impose a “total blockade” on fuel supplies to the island, “Let Cuba Breathe” emerges as a communication effort to document the human impact of these policies.

The new measures, described by experts as an “economic war” and by Cuban authorities as a “fascist, criminal, and genocidal” act, aim to suffocate the Cuban economy to provoke a social collapse. Faced with this reality, the campaign intends to show the human face of the crisis, contrasting it with the “false stories” that, according to President Miguel Díaz-Canel, attempt to deny the existence of the blockade.

Each day, a new documentary video will share moving and direct testimonies from key sectors of Cuban society.

The “Let Cuba Breathe” campaign seeks precisely to counter the “psychological warfare” operations that, as intellectual Abel Prieto pointed out, are proliferating through digital media funded from abroad to manipulate and spread disinformation about the reality of the island. By giving voice to real people, the initiative aims to connect with an international audience and showcase the resilience of a people who, despite enormous hardships, unite and strengthen their anti-imperialist stance in the face of external aggression.

From civil society and independent journalism, “Let Cuba Breathe” joins the global condemnation of the blockade, documenting the resistance of a people who refuse to surrender.

To follow the campaign and contribute to its dissemination, those interested can find all the materials on the initiative’s official channels.
