Mass held in Nicaragua in honor of Cubans killed in Venezuela

by Ed Newman

The second of three masses was held Monday at La Merced Church in the Larreynaga neighborhood of the Nicaraguan capital of Managua to honor the 32 Cuban combatants killed in Venezuela during the recent U.S. military aggression.

According to the Cuban Embassy in Nicaragua, the ceremony was officiated by Father Antonio Castro (Toñito), who in his homily highlighted the courage and dedication of the combatants, and emphasized their solidarity and the sacrifice they made in defense of a sister nation.

The diplomatic mission specified that the religious activities will continue next Thursday, January 22nd, with the third and final mass at the same church, concluding the series of tributes.

Last week, several generations of Cubans paid posthumous tribute to those who died in the line of duty, in a dignified and heroic manner, in an unequal confrontation against US military personnel who kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
