MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers for World Series spot

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, October 17 (RHC) – The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to seal their place in the Major League Baseball World Series today at home by seeking their fourth consecutive victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The reigning champions need just one win to win the ALCS and become the first team to defend their title in 16 years, since the Philadelphia Phillies.

Only once in history has a club overturned a 0-3 deficit in the postseason—the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees in 2004—so the Dodgers’ chances seem almost certain.

The day before, they won 3-1 with an RBI double from Mookie Betts and an RBI single from Tommy Edman, backed by five pitchers, including reliever Alex Vescia, who earned the win, and Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, who closed the series.

In the American League, the series remains more even after the Toronto Blue Jays’ 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners, which tied the game at two apiece at T-Mobile Park.

Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Venezuelan Andrés Giménez hit solo home runs, the latter with four RBIs on the day. Max Scherzer earned the win with 5.2 innings of work, allowing two runs, one of them on a home run by Josh Naylor.
