The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, received the Letters of Credence from the new ambassadors to the Bolivarian Republic, in order to reaffirm alliances based on a path of active cooperation, as well as a shared stance on defending the nation’s sovereignty in the face of US threats.

The Venezuelan President reported on the receipt of letters from the heads of state of Ivory Coast (Ambassador Diamoutene Alassane Zie), Belarus (Ambassador Dzmitry Dzeravinski), Hungary (Ambassador Dániel Szécsi), Azerbaijan (Ambassador Ruslan Rzayev), and Cambodia (Ambassador Chea Thireak), and emphasized that the principles defended by the Bolivarian nation were upheld: sovereignty, equality among states, humanity, self-determination, and respect.

The formal ceremony held earlier this week in the Sol del Perú Hall of the Miraflores Palace was attended by the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs and the Vice Minister for Africa, Yuri Pimentel, among other officials.

He recalled that Venezuela is a territory of peace, and that its sovereignty is currently threatened by the deployment of military vessels and a nuclear submarine near its waters, an action that violates the Treaty of Tlatelolco.

The Treaty of Tlatelolco (1967), officially known as the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean, was signed in Mexico City on February 14, 1967, and established Latin America and the Caribbean as the first nuclear-weapon-free zone in a densely populated region.

Given this scenario, the president underscored “the impressive support Venezuela receives in the face of this U.S. threat” and emphasized that the nation’s diplomacy “is not the diplomacy of gunboats, but rather the legacy left to us by Commander Hugo Chávez, admired, and which represents the heart of a noble people.”

“Venezuela does not accept anyone’s supremacy and represents the dignity and courage of Bolívar,” said Nicolás Maduro.
