Political parties called to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty

by Ed Newman

Foreign Minister Yván Gil called on political parties, communities, and social movements today to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty in the face of the threat of military aggression by the United States government.

During the closing ceremony of the International Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Fascist Conference, which met the day before at the Antonio José de Sucre Yellow House of the Foreign Ministry, the diplomat declared that his country’s truth is defended in the streets and before the world.

“There are no threats or attacks capable of forcing a people determined to be free and sovereign,” he asserted.

The event, organized by the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples (ISB), with the participation of 52 delegations, aimed to articulate voices from the Global South in rejection of imperialist policies against peoples and in defense of sovereignty and self-determination.

Gil expressed that “we are fighters and activists for humanity” and called on “all political parties, communities, and social movements to defend the sovereignty of our country, with the peace and joy that characterizes us as Venezuelans.”

In this regard, he asked the delegations present to establish a debate to counteract the effects of fascism and build alternatives that rescue the independence values achieved by the liberators.

He stated that in the face of this imperialism that resorts to the most miserable means, such as murder, threats, and extortion, with the aim of subjugating peoples, humiliating them, and degrading their very identity, “we from here rise up with strength.”

We say again to this decadent empire that “they will be defeated and this people will rise up and win definitively,” he emphasized.

Gil stated that no military aircraft, nuclear submarine, ship, missile, or sanction can defeat a people when they are determined to be free.

He affirmed that In the face of US military actions in the Caribbean Sea, “we have the responsibility to build a future and a new form of participatory and proactive popular government.”

In assessing the meeting, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister emphasized that it served to reaffirm the unity and solidarity of the people in their rejection of the decadent weapons of fascist imperialism.

The president of the ISB, Blanca Eekhout, expressed that we must organize and move forward to confront the psychological, criminal, brutal, and dehumanizing war imposed by the Donald Trump administration, which, she said, “we will overcome through socialism.”
