President Luong Cuong says Vietnam will never forget Cuba’s support

by Ed Newman

Vietnam will never forget Cuba’s support during difficult times in the past and will always stand by its side, sharing experiences and supporting it to the best of its ability, President Luong Cuong affirmed in Hanoi.

The Vietnamese head of state made the statement upon receiving Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, who is visiting this Indochinese nation as a special envoy of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) and the Cuban government.

Cuong also asserted that “Vietnam will deepen, stabilize, and maintain bilateral cooperation in all areas, maximizing the strengths of both sides to contribute to the development of each country.”

In the context of the current complex global situation, consolidating and developing the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba is not only the responsibility of each Party and each country, but also the aspiration of their peoples, he stated.

The Vietnamese president also noted that the visit of a special envoy from the CCP and the Cuban government immediately following the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam constitutes a special political gesture that vividly demonstrates the close and reliable relationship between the two Parties, States, and peoples.

He also recalled the glorious history of the ties between the two countries, meticulously cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and emphasized that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship “is an invaluable asset, a symbol of the times, tested by the flames of war and the vicissitudes of history.”

Luong Cuong, as reported by the Hanoi Moi newspaper, highly valued the success of the “Vietnam-Cuba Year of Friendship,” held in 2025 to mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and expressed his confidence that the visit by Rodríguez and a high-level delegation would further strengthen this special relationship.

The Cuban special envoy, for his part, reaffirmed that Cuba has always been proud to have a loyal friend and comrade like Vietnam, and expressed his confidence that, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), it will continue to achieve new milestones in the new era of national development.

Rodríguez also conveyed his warmest congratulations to the Vietnamese leaders on the 96th anniversary of the founding of the CPV and on the success of their recently held 14th National Congress.

In the meeting, which took place in a solemn and fraternal atmosphere, both sides agreed to implement high-level commitments and agreements, especially key cooperation projects in agriculture, renewable energy, and biotechnology, thus developing economic relations in accordance with the existing special political relationship.

The CCP Politburo member was received the previous day by CPV General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and held talks with his counterpart, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
