President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounces terrorist plots against Cuba

by Ed Newman

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced on Thursday that terrorist actions against Cuba are being organized and financed from the United States and announced that details of these plots will be revealed soon.

In a press conference, the Cuban president said that these violent plots against Cuba will be detailed in the coming days, and that they are an expression of how, for more than six decades, terrorism has been supported, financed, and organized by successive U.S. administrations.

He described as political manipulation, a lie, and dishonest slander the accusation made by the Donald Trump administration last week, when it issued an executive order invoking a national emergency and claiming that Cuba harbors terrorists and promotes international terrorism.

“Cuba is not a terrorist country, nor is it a threat to the national security of the United States; Cuba has not organized terrorist actions against that nation,” the president emphasized.

The Cuban leader called Washington’s list, which includes Cuba as a state that supposedly sponsors international terrorism, spurious and accused the White House of political manipulation by using the issue of terrorism to pressure Cuba.

Without any proof, the Trump administration included the largest of the Antilles on that list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism, which contradicts the position of Joe Biden’s administration, which publicly acknowledged that there was neither evidence nor reason for it, Díaz-Canel pointed out.

He stressed that “we do not protect terrorists, nor are there any such organizations in Cuba,” and added that there are no military forces from other nations in Cuba, nor foreign military bases. “We have cooperation and agreements on military matters with friendly, allied countries, but that does not mean there are bases on our territory,” he emphasized.

On the contrary, Diaz-Canel emphasized, it is the United States that has military bases around the world and is known for carrying out state terrorism in numerous places, such as occupied Palestine, Venezuela where Maduro was kidnapped, and the boats they bombed and sank in the Caribbean without any evidence.

“Which side is the truth on?” the president asked. He insisted that the United States is the main promoter of terrorism worldwide.

The Cuban president recalled the perversity of successive US administrations that have financed and orchestrated state terrorism against the Cuban people and the more than three thousand deaths caused by violent actions originating from that country.

He recalled historical events such as the terrorist attacks in Boca de Samá, Holguín; the murder of the young literacy teacher Manuel Ascunce Domenech; the mid-air explosion of a Cubana de Aviación plane in Barbados that killed 73 people; and the more than 600 assassination attempts against Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro. He added that 32 Cubans died on January 3 in Caracas, defending not only President Nicolás Maduro, but also the dignity of their people.

Díaz-Canel stated that a review of current international conflicts reveals, directly or indirectly, the incitement, support, or direct participation of U.S. troops.

The world would be different if the United States did not have such a bellicose view of life, and there would be no such anguish in the countries where the U.S. military has intervened, Miguel Diaz-Canel concluded.
