Havana, September 17 (RHC) – Today, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will host Italian side Atalanta in its Champions League debut, a tournament it won less than four months ago for the first time in its history.
The Parc des Princes will be a small crowd tonight, with its nearly 50,000 seats, for a match marked by absences and uncertainty surrounding several players, with the host nation’s attack battered by injuries.
The previous Champions League champions and their manager, Luis Enrique, recently lost star French forwards Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué for several weeks in World Cup qualifying, while Georgian Khivicha Kvaratskhelia is doubtful after coming off injured on Saturday in the Ligue 1 match against Lens.
Ivan Juric, the visiting coach, will also have a challenge in choosing his starting lineup, which will be missing key players such as defender Sead Kolasinac, Brazilian midfielder Ederson, and forward Gianluca Scamaca.
In the 2025-2026 Champions League, PSG will face a very difficult qualifying phase, with opponents such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Athletic Bilbao, and Newcastle.
As for Atalanta, the Italian club won the Europa League in the 2023-2024 season and finished third in Serie A last season.
