The Merengues prevailed at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, with goals from Brazilian Eder Militao in the 22nd minute and Frenchman Kylian Mbappé in the 47th.
In this way, the elite squad from the Spanish capital achieved its fifth victory in as many matches and reached 15 points at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, Espanyol suffered its first setback of the championship and is stranded in third place, with 10 points.
