Russia warns that the U.S. won’t have ‘a walk in the park’ similar to Venezuela

The Russian ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, warned the United States today that they shouldn’t expect a ‘walk in the park’ similar to Venezuela’s if they plan to militarily intervene in Cuba.

“In Venezuela, there has been a betrayal, without a doubt.  They openly acknowledge it.   Some high-ranking officials have, in fact, betrayed President Nicolás Maduro.  They won’t be able to repeat that act in Cuba,” the diplomat explained in an interview with the Rossiya 24 television channel.

“They can’t expect a walk to what happened in Venezuela,” Nebenzia reiterated.

The representative of the Eurasian giant to the UN stated that the recent declarations from Washington regarding Havana are nothing more than “rhetoric, for now.”

The day before, US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency due to a perceived security threat emanating from the Caribbean nation.

In response, he signed an executive order authorizing the White House to impose additional tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba.

For his part, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez described the US action as a “brutal act of aggression against Cuba and its people, who for more than 65 years have been subjected to the longest and cruelest economic blockade ever imposed on an entire nation and who are now threatened with extreme living conditions.”

This new attack against Havana comes just weeks after Washington carried out a major military offensive against Venezuela in the early hours of January 3rd.

As part of the military operation, President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were kidnapped and taken to New York City to face trial on drug trafficking charges.

The bombing of Caracas and three other Venezuelan states resulted in the deaths of at least 100 people, including 32 Cuban combatants, and a similar number of wounded, both military personnel and civilians, according to figures provided by Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.

The attack on Venezuela came after months of escalating tensions that began in August with the deployment of a U.S. military operation in the Caribbean, which included the presence of destroyers, a nuclear submarine, the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, and more than 4,000 troops.

As part of this operation, U.S. forces carried out dozens of illegal attacks against alleged drug-running boats, in which more than 100 people have been killed.
