Russian oil tanker Anatoly Kolodkin completes unloading in Matanzas

by Ed Newman

The Russian oil tanker Anatoly Kolodkin departed Saturday morning from Matanzas Bay, after completing the transfer of 100,000 tons of crude oil delivered by the Russian Federation as a gesture of solidarity, the Cuba-Petroleum Union (Cupet) reported on its Facebook page.

The operations were carried out automatically and without incident at the deep-water dock of the Matanzas supertanker base, a facility with the capacity to receive vessels of up to 180,000 tons displacement.

Port authorities at Cupet confirmed that coastal shipping operations continue to transport the fuel to national refineries, where the Ural crude will be processed.

Technical estimates indicate that refining will yield approximately 292,000 tons of fuel oil for thermal power plants, more than 255,000 barrels of diesel, 109,000 barrels of gasoline, and about 10 percent liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The Russian Federation’s Ministry of Energy recently confirmed that another shipment of fuel oil to Cuba is being prepared.
