The Raúl Castro Ruz Selected Works collection was recently presented at an event held at the José Martí Memorial in the Cuban capital, with the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic.
Daily Sánchez Lemus, deputy director of the Office of Historical Affairs of the Presidency, specified that the compendium, with a prologue by Díaz-Canel, consists of nine volumes and a pamphlet, and covers the Army General’s work from 1951 to 2024.
These pages include speeches, documents, personal letters, and his campaign diary, primarily from the war era, and then throughout the Revolution, including his work leading the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Party, the government, among other periods, she explained.
Regarding the text, which represented the dedication of the entire Office staff for more than four and a half years, Sánchez Lemus highlighted its importance for the political education of the new generations, proposing an insight into Raúl’s personality, his abilities, and, above all, his human sensitivity.
He emphasized that the nine volumes contain more than 500 documents, more than 5,000 pages in total, and references, with footnotes explaining situations, specific moments, contexts, and references to little-known figures.
Sánchez Lemus expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the Celia Editions collective, the publishing house of the Office, for the gesture extended by the Party and Government of the People’s Republic of China, which contributed with the donation of 3,000 collections that will be distributed for consultation in institutions and centers throughout the country.
Abel Prieto Jiménez, president of Casa de las Américas, emphasized that, in the face of the enemy’s attempts to distort history, this title constitutes a guide to revolutionary ethics in line with Raúl Castro Ruz’s concern for the preparation of revolutionaries, for whom it is not enough to fight, but rather to understand the foundations and reasons for fighting.
He emphasized that these pages summarize the trajectory of nearly seven decades of combat and example, where the heartfelt commitment to the brothers who fell along the way is not lacking.
This collection, if adopted by teachers, professors, student organizations, and cadres, can be a great weapon against this phenomenon of idiocy and the erasure of memory, especially among the younger generations, he added.
Present at the event were Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister; Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee; Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the Republic; José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army; and other representatives of political organizations and social and mass organizations.
