A shipment of more than 800 tons of aid arrived on Thursday at the port of Havana aboard two Mexican Navy ships. The aid was sent by the Mexican government at the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Upon receiving the shipment, Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Domestic Trade, thanked President Sheinbaum, her government, the Mexican people, and the institutions that made it possible for this aid to reach the Cuban people.

According to the Granma newspaper, the minister specified that the aid consists of food, hygiene products, and other supplies that will be greatly appreciated by the Cuban people.

He highlighted the participation of the Mexican Navy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy, the President’s office, and all the Mexican institutions that made the shipment possible.

“At a time when we are overcoming difficulties, when the measures imposed by the United States government are intensifying and the attempt to suffocate us is becoming more acute, this is all the more appreciated,” Díaz Velázquez stated.

He added that Cubans feel supported by Mexico, by its humanity, its solidarity, and its brotherhood.

According to the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ship Papaloapan would transport approximately 536 tons of supplies, including liquid milk, meat products, cookies, beans, rice, tuna in water, sardines, and vegetable oil, as well as personal hygiene items.

Meanwhile, the second ship, named Isla Holbox, would bring approximately 277 tons of powdered milk to Cuba.
