With the Provincial, Municipal, and Zone Defense Councils, as well as entities and organizations in the province of Sancti Spíritus, the territorial defense exercise of Defense Zones began today in this central region, as part of the objective to strengthen their preparedness and cohesion.

During the exercise, Deivy Pérez Martin, president of the Provincial Defense Council, emphasized the need for maximum organization of each planned task to achieve the best possible preparation of the Production and Defense Brigades (BPD), in order to have a well-trained population capable of halting and defeating any attempt by the enemy to seize control of Cuba.

Following the air raid siren, students and staff from a school in the Olivos area of this city conducted an evacuation drill. Within minutes, they had left the classrooms and other school buildings and taken up positions in the shelters.

In other locations, members of the Provincial Defense Forces (BPD) trained in assembling and disassembling rifles, throwing grenades, and conducting marksmanship exercises.

Meanwhile, also in the Olivos area, members of the BPD, in conjunction with students from the José Martí Pérez University of Sancti Spíritus, practiced protecting the provincial government headquarters in the event of an enemy attempt to seize the building.

All of these actions are part of a nationwide strategy to prepare the population for territorial defense, and these drills will be systematically repeated at various locations throughout the province
