Havana, April 7 (RHC) – Most of the facilities for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 are now ready or in the final stages of completion, according to an updated report submitted to the organizing committee.
The report indicates that several disciplines already have venues prepared for competition, including table tennis, archery, hockey, rowing, canoeing, and clay pigeon shooting, some of which have been available since 2023.
Likewise, the facilities used in previous Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC Games) – when the Dominican Republic was a sub-host – are ready, requiring only minor maintenance.
The Aquatic Center will be delivered in the coming days, while the gymnastics, volleyball, and badminton pavilions are complete. This complex has three pools certified for international events.
Among the projects in the final stages is the handball pavilion, whose structure is finished and only the roof cladding remains, with delivery expected by the end of this month.
The combat sports pavilions are also progressing. Pavilion I is in the finishing stages, while Pavilion II is 65 percent complete, with completion estimated for May.
Regarding the major venues, the Sports Palace has completed its civil works and is currently undergoing the installation of technological equipment, with delivery scheduled for the end of June.
The Olympic Stadium is making significant progress. The equipment has already arrived in the country, and the paving work will be completed by the end of April. Its delivery is planned for June.
In field sports, Softball Stadium I is in its final stage, while Softball Stadium II is progressing with the drainage construction. Baseball will utilize Quisqueya Stadium and other facilities at the Olympic Center, which will be ready by the end of May.
The skating and skateboarding areas are 90 percent complete and will be finished by the end of April at the Malecón Deportivo (Sports Boardwalk).
The velodrome has begun track improvements with an international specialist, a process that will last approximately 45 days.
The tennis courts are currently being renovated and are expected to be completed by the beginning of June.
For disciplines such as bowling and squash, existing facilities and adapted temporary spaces will be used.
The organizing committee emphasized that the overall progress of the construction remains on schedule, which will allow technical testing to begin ahead of schedule.
According to the report, most of the facilities will be ready weeks before the start of the games, scheduled for July 24 to August 8, a rare achievement in the organization of this type of event.
