Havana, October 9 (RHC) – The U-20 World Cup, hosted in Chile, enters its final stages today with the round of 16 matches between the United States and Italy and Morocco against South Korea.
The number of teams selected to compete in the 2025 FIFA World Cup, organized by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), is decreasing.
This Thursday, the two teams that will join the six already qualified for the quarterfinals will be announced: Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Norway, and France.
This Thursday, the United States and Morocco appear on paper as favorites; however, in football, nothing is set in stone until the referee’s final whistle.
The Americans arrived first in Group E, with two wins, 9-1 against New Caledonia and 3-0 against France, as well as a narrow defeat to South Africa.
Their opponent this week, Italy, qualified second in Group D, thanks to a 1-0 win over Australia, a 2-2 draw with Cuba, and a 1-0 defeat in their match against Argentina.
This match will take place at 4:30 p.m. local time on the El Teniente Stadium pitch in the city of Rancagua, capital of the central O’Higgins region.
That evening, at the same venue, the Moroccan and South Korean teams will face each other starting at 8:00 p.m. local time.
The North Africans finished first in Group C, after beating Spain 2-0 and Brazil 2-1, and losing 0-1 to Mexico.
The South Korean team finished third in Group B after a 2-1 win over Panama, a goalless draw with Paraguay, and a 2-1 defeat to Ukraine.
With the round of 16 over, a bye date will be Friday, October 10, and the quarterfinals begin on Saturday with Spain vs. Colombia and Mexico vs. Argentina.
