The Tour of Angola has begun: 14 countries are participating

Havana, October 30 (RHC) – The Tour of Angola began today from the city of Moçâmedes, in the province of Namibe, with a four-kilometer route near the airport and the participation of 176 cyclists from 14 countries.

The sporting event is designed in 10 stages and will continue tomorrow with an 87-kilometer route between Caraculo and Tundavala, in the province of Huíla.

Hosted under the name of Alberto Silva “Pepino,” in homage to the legendary cyclist from Benguela who influenced several generations of national sport, the competition brought together 27 teams from Angola, Cape Verde, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Senegal, Mali, and Mozambique.

Dedicated to the 50th anniversary of national independence, the race will take place in the provinces of Namibe, Huíla, Benguela, Cuanza-Sul, Soyo, Bengo, and Luanda.

The day before, during the official opening ceremony, the president of the Angolan Cycling Federation, Cremilda Rangel, expressed her hope to the national and international participants that the competition would unfold with a spirit of competition and excitement from both the athletes and all attendees.

She also reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to continue promoting the sport and creating opportunities for new talent, as he considered cycling an engine of transformation and a promoter of culture, discipline, team spirit, and dedication.
