Two catamaran vessels located by the Mexican Navy after getting lost en route to Cuba arrived safely at the port of Havana on Saturday, the ministry reported.

“The catamaran vessels Friendship and Tigermoth arrived and docked safely at the port of Havana, Cuba, after being located at sea,” the institution stated in a message on its social media account.

It added that it maintained “monitoring and coordination with the relevant authorities for their safe arrival in port.”

Earlier, the Navy announced the location of the vessels, which set sail on March 20 with supplies from Isla Mujeres, in the southern state of Quintana Roo, as part of the Our America Convoy.

Furthermore, he specified that the crews were in good health and would be escorted by a Navy vessel to their destination.

The Ministry launched a search and rescue operation on March 26 to locate the two sailboats, as there had been no communication or confirmation of their arrival, expected between March 24 and 25.

The Nuestra America Convoy is one of the international initiatives protesting the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades, which was tightened last January through an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump.

The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification affects critical areas such as electricity generation, the operation of hospitals, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the island nation.
