Havana, September 25 (RHC) – The Cuban baseball5 team secured two victories in Group B of the II Baseball5 Youth World Cup, held at the Parque La Loma field in Nayarit, Mexico.
Coach Sergio Arturo Pérez’s squad gave a practical lesson to their Kenyan counterparts, crushing them 2-0 with scores of 13-2 (knockout) and 12-2.
In the closing match, they defeated Spain 2-0 (4-2 and 10-0), which put up a tough fight in the first set.
Rachel de la Caridad Medina took the top spot on the day, going 8-12 against Kenya with nine RBIs, and 7-10 against Spain with five RBIs.
Also showcasing their talent were Carlos Alejandro Rivera, captain and leadoff hitter, and Amanda Díaz, one of the members of the team that won the title in the first World Cup in this category, hosted by Ankara, Turkey.
This Thursday, the Cubans will close out the qualifying phase with a match against South Korea, which lost 2-1 to Spain in its debut.
The tournament features 16 teams divided into four groups and will offer a direct ticket to the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, where baseball5 will debut at this level.
