American mercenary and former special forces member Jordan Goudreau offered a forceful revelation during an interview with journalist Max Blumenthal for The Grayzone, in which he exposed the origins of the Trump administration’s war narrative against Venezuela and the true creators of the Cartel de los Soles fable, with which they intend to promote invasions in the region.
Goudreau, known for leading the failed 2020 armed incursion against the Venezuelan government, dubbed “Operation Gideon,” claimed that the so-called “Cartel de los Soles” was a structure created by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) long before President Hugo Chávez Frías came to power.
“Back in the 1990s, the Cartel de los Soles was created by the CIA. This is no secret, I mean, this is the truth,” Goudreau stated. He added that this same structure is now being used to accuse President Nicolás Maduro, even though “it may not actually exist anymore.”
When asked to confirm whether the CIA was the creator of the organization, the mercenary responded emphatically: “Oh, absolutely. That’s nothing new.”
Goudreau based his statement by citing a senior intelligence source in his country. “According to what the former head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) told Mike Wallace, this drug shipment arrived here thanks to what he called drug trafficking by the CIA in association with the Venezuelan National Guard,” he explained.
The former Green Beret also debunked the name of the alleged organization, calling it “almost a joke” in intelligence circles. “They didn’t give themselves that name. There’s a patch on their uniform with a sun, and I assume the DEA or whoever named them that because of that,” he explained.
However, Goudreau insisted on the central point of his revelation: “The CIA’s facilitation of drug trafficking through this group is well documented.”
In his analysis, the mercenary maintained that the United States government, regardless of the administration, seeks to protect the resources it obtains through drug trafficking. He argued that the current pressure on Venezuela is part of an update of the Monroe Doctrine to prevent the strategic influence of Russia or China in the region, a policy he ironically called “the Maduro doctrine.”
Goudreau is no ordinary witness when it comes to CIA plans and invasion operations in the United States. He is one of the mercenaries who led the attempted coup against the government of Nicolás Maduro in 2020. He has recently been exposing drug trafficking links between figures such as Venezuelan far-right leaders Juan Guaidó and Leopoldo López and the U.S. government, as well as the involvement of former Colombian President Iván Duque and other public figures in organizing “Operation Gideon.”
