The challenge of organizing a global network of publications marked the closing of the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements this Friday in Havana, at the proposal of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCPCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who attended the closing ceremony.
Also, the presentation of the new edition of the Cuba Socialista Magazine, the main organizer of the meeting, was held with the participation of Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the CCPCC.
In this news issue, its director, Luis Morlote Rivas, emphasized that it will be closely linked to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), who embodies the essence of Cuba and, therefore, the popular tribute paid to him in its pages.
In the texts, he defended essential tools for understanding the current Cuban process and drawing on other foreign experiences, spanning more than six decades of struggle against imperialist pressures.
In the issue’s design, he emphasized a critical perspective on the transformations that have begun and their main references, thus seeking a balance between Communist ideology and the need to innovate in accordance with the new conditions of today’s world.
“The debates of these days will shape the publication’s future texts, and the international network will be enriched by everyone’s valuable contributions,” he added, while urging all those present to become permanent contributors to the magazine.
Marydé Fernández López, deputy head of the CCPCC’s Ideological Department, highlighted the strengthening of Socialist Cuba with the appointment of a new director and the expansion of collaborative data networks, with approximately 250 editors from more than thirty countries represented.
“This is the first step toward strengthening the Voices of the South network: articulation of media for liberation, as a project that transcends publishing to become a weapon for unity,” she emphasized when reading the event summary.
In the reading of the meeting’s Final Declaration, led by Patricia Villegas, president of Nueva Televisión del Sur (teleSUR), entitled “For International Unity Against Imperialism,” the fundamental value of this principle was reaffirmed in the face of the threat posed to the peace of the people by the maneuvers of U.S. imperialism.
Patricia Villegas condemned the systematic attempts to undermine peace and impose gunboat diplomacy, a vision that maintains the disastrous Monroe Doctrine in force more than two centuries after its formulation.
She thus called for embracing the cause of any people who fight and resist imperialism, such as the worthy examples of Venezuela, Cuba and Palestine, and for meeting again in Havana in 2026, in the context of the 9th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba and the activities for the centennial of Fidel’s birth.
The sessions of the 3rd International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements give way to the 1st International Granma-Rebelde Festival, a platform for sharing ideas, informational options, and educational experiences with the public at the facilities located on Línea and 18th Streets in the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado.
