The Circle of War Correspondents of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) rejects and denounces the US military escalation off the coast of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as an aggression against its stability, sovereignty, and peace, as well as against the Latin American and Caribbean region.
A statement from the organization warns that amidst this deployment, extrajudicial executions have been perpetrated by bombing boats or executing shipwrecked survivors, abhorrent acts to which the US empire has no right whatsoever, not even if they were to provide evidence related to the excuse used of fighting drug trafficking, which, to this point, has not happened.
It warns that this is a flagrant violation of the victims’ rights and of all international norms and laws. Furthermore, like pirates of old, U.S. forces assaulted, kidnapped a crew, and stole a Venezuelan oil tanker, in blatant violation and contempt of all established norms governing the right to free maritime trade and the sovereignty of nations.
It criticizes the U.S. government’s recent announcement of a blockade against Venezuela, which aims to obstruct the operation of its most important industry and export product, with the political objective of attempting to collapse the government of President Nicolás Maduro, impede the country’s normal economic development, and provoke an event that could trigger war.
“Ultimately, they are seizing the immense natural resources of its territory as a gateway and usurping the wealth of the peoples of Our America, at any latitude.”
He reiterates that this is an imperialist aggression seeking to restore colonial status to our lands, but in the face of such threats, the Venezuelan people rise up with dignity and fighting spirit, level-headed, mobilized, conscious, and combative.
“Our solidarity with the people of Chávez and Maduro, who today hold high the sword of Bolívar, the sword of true independence and social emancipation.”
“We call on all our colleagues across the continent, especially those who have covered war zones, to defend the peace of Venezuela and our entire region.”
“Let us raise the banners of history and our present against the imperialist attempt by the Donald Trump administration to impose its designs of domination by force. Against psychological warfare and persistent media aggression, let our voice of revolutionary solidarity rise and be heard loud and clear.”
