The Venezuela-Cuba Mutual Friendship and Solidarity Movement has once again raised its voice to denounce before the international community the new imperialist offensive that seeks to undermine the peace and sovereignty of Cuba.
From the birthplace of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez, guided by the indomitable spirit of the Cuban independence fighters, “we condemn the recent attempts to introduce armed groups and destabilizing agents into Cuban territory,” the solidarity organization stated in a press release.
The statement indicated that these actions, financed by the extreme right based in the United States, are a flagrant violation of international law and demonstrate the desperation of those who “have been unable to break the will of the heroic Cuban people through hunger or scarcity.” We indignantly reject the cynical statements of President Donald Trump, who, under the euphemism of a “friendly takeover,” intends to apply the Monroe Doctrine, the statement said.
The solidarity movement asserted that Cuba is not real estate, nor a colony awaiting a foreign “owner”; it is a sovereign nation that won its independence with blood and sacrifice.
The “friendship” offered by the empire always comes conditional on submission, it emphasized, adding that the only friendship Cuba recognizes is that of peoples who respect and value it as an equal.
It also reiterated that the true “aid” Cuba needs is the complete and unconditional lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that is suffocating it and is the main obstacle to its development as a nation.
The statement warned the centers of power in Washington that “Cuba is not alone” and that the peoples of the world remain vigilant against any attempt at military adventure or political destabilization disguised as “assistance.”
