Venezuela reaffirms brotherhood with Cuba on 67th anniversary of the Revolution

The Bolivarian Republic expressed its profound admiration for the Cuban people, describing them as an example of dignity, humanism, and revolutionary steadfastness in the face of international pressure.

The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, through Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pintos, issued an official statement this January 1st to commemorate the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, reaffirming the unwavering unity between both nations in the face of imperial ambitions.

The document highlights that the legacy of Bolívar and Martí, sealed by Commanders Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, guides the unwavering commitment to defend sovereignty, peace, and socialism in the Caribbean.

In the statement, the Foreign Minister denounced the blockades and external aggressions that seek to besiege sovereign nations, reaffirming the right to build their own destiny without tutelage or impositions from foreign powers.

The statement emphasizes that the spirit of January 1, 1959, remains the “sacred fire” that drives the region’s present and future victories. With this pronouncement, Venezuela reaffirms its strategic alliance with the island at the beginning of 2026, consolidating an anti-imperialist resistance bloc that prioritizes the integration and self-determination of sister nations in the face of threats from Washington.

Fidel Castro’s revolutionary feat was built upon the strategic ability to transform tactical defeats into decisive political victories.

After the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in 1953, what seemed like a military setback became an ideological victory when the revolutionary leader defended himself at his trial.

His plea, known as “History Will Absolve Me,” transformed the accused into the accuser of the neocolonial system backed by the United States, achieving a clandestine distribution of 100,000 copies that sowed the seeds of insurrectionary consciousness throughout the island.

This DNA of resistance was tested again in 1956 with the Granma yacht landing, an expedition that faced the loss of men and weapons in swampy areas far from the planned landing sites.

Despite having only seven rifles after the initial dispersal, Fidel maintained unwavering faith in victory, reorganizing the struggle from the Sierra Maestra mountains. This iron will allowed the Cuban Revolution to achieve its definitive victory on January 1, 1959, demonstrating that logistical obstacles cannot stop a movement driven by social justice and popular support.

Upon proclaiming victory on January 1, Fidel warned that the true Revolution was only just beginning and that it would be a difficult undertaking in the face of imperialist aggression. This legacy of turning every obstacle into an advance remains relevant in 2026, inspiring the peoples of the Global South to resist blockades and sanctions without bowing to Washington.

The 1959 victory was not an isolated event, but the beginning of a process of social transformation that teaches revolutionaries around the world that faith in victory and unity are the fundamental tools for overcoming any siege and building full sovereignty.

Cuba’s example of resistance, sustained for more than six decades, serves as an inspiration for nations seeking alternatives to neoliberalism and corporate control over natural resources. The defense of shared sovereignty between Venezuela and the island strengthens the construction of a multipolar world, where peace and mutual respect prevail over the policies of war and isolation imposed by U.S. imperialism.
