Venezuela Shakes Up the Top of the World Baseball Rankings

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, March 26 (RHC) – Venezuela burst onto the world baseball scene with authority after today’s update of the world rankings, boosted by its recent title in the World Baseball Classic.

The new rankings, published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation, maintain Japan as the leader with 6,337 points, followed by Chinese Taipei, the United States, and South Korea, a quartet now feeling the pressure from Venezuela.

Venezuela’s rise to fifth place with 3,992 points, after adding 1,150 points as champion of the World Baseball Classic, significantly reduces the gap and confirms its consolidation as a powerhouse in this sport.

This ranking system, which weighs results from the last four years from the Under-12 to the senior level in global and continental tournaments, thus reflects the immediate impact of a golden generation that has transformed the competitive landscape.

Further down the list, Puerto Rico climbs to sixth place, surpassing Mexico, while Australia makes the most notable rise within the top 10. The Dominican Republic gains ground in an increasingly compressed ranking, overtaking Cuba, which falls to 12th place.

With 85 countries represented, the table reflects a global baseball scene in turmoil, where each tournament rewrites the hierarchy and where Venezuela, now closer than ever to the top, threatens to definitively change the established order.
