Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reveals “respectful and cordial” conversation with Donald Trump

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro revealed details this Wednesday of the “respectful and cordial” telephone conversation with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, which took place approximately ten days ago. The Venezuelan leader advocated for state-to-state dialogue as a path to peace and diplomacy, amidst growing threats and the US military deployment near the Venezuelan coast.

Maduro explained that the call was initiated from the White House to Miraflores Palace. He emphasized his commitment to diplomatic prudence, learned during his years as foreign minister and under the guidance of Commander Hugo Chávez, preferring discretion in matters of great importance. “When there are important things, they have to be kept quiet. Until they happen,” the Head of State affirmed.

President Maduro stated that if this call signifies progress toward respectful dialogue between Venezuela and the United States, diplomacy will be welcome. “The United States, its entire people, its youth, are tired of endless wars,” the president emphasized, noting that these conflicts have marked the collective psyche of the American people, with examples such as Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya.

In this context, the president invoked the spirit of the “United Liberation Army of the 21st Century,” indicating that the struggle for sovereignty and independence remains relevant. He recounted Venezuela’s historic resistance during the War of Independence, recalling a letter from Spanish General Pablo Morillo to the King of Spain. In it, Morillo expressed his concern about the Venezuelan people’s tenacity in the face of colonization, referring to them as “resolute beasts.”

Maduro affirmed that “not only were they unable to subdue us, but we expelled them from all of South America, united with our Colombian, Panamanian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Argentinian, Uruguayan, Chilean, and Bolivian brothers.” The Head of State highlighted Bolívar’s figure as “a genius of unity, of overcoming intrigue and division; he was a genius at building multiple army corps.”

Addressing the Minister of People’s Power for Defense, General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino López, the president explained Bolívar’s feat of commanding “seven army corps simultaneously.” He emphasized that he did it “without WhatsApp, without a phone, without satellite” and managed to “turn to dust thousands of men better armed than us, sent in hundreds of ships by the King of Spain to subdue us.” Maduro declared that they couldn’t then, “nor will they ever be able to defeat us Venezuelans,” referring to the current international situation threatening Venezuela.

These remarks were made by President Maduro while overseeing progress on the Roadmap for Consolidating the Communal and Popular Government System in the San Blas neighborhood of Petare, Miranda state.
