“Millions of voices are rising up around the world today to defend the right to peace, sovereignty, self-determination, and the future of the people of Venezuela, the people of Colombia, and the peoples of South America and the Caribbean,” President Nicolás Maduro emphasized.

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, closed the Meeting of Jurists in Defense of International Law this Friday. The event, held in Caracas from November 13 to 14, aimed to reaffirm the role of International Law as a pillar of peace, sovereignty, and cooperation among States.

Convened by the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela, the event brought together 100 top-level academics, experts, and legal consultants from 34 countries, amidst the latent military threat that the United States has been posing to the Bolivarian Republic for almost four months.

In his address, the Venezuelan head of state emphasized: “Millions of voices are rising up around the world today to defend the right to peace, sovereignty, self-determination, and the future of the people of Venezuela, the people of Colombia, and the peoples of South America and the Caribbean.”

Later, he referred to the continued violations of international law by the United States and its allies, such as Israel: “There is no longer a nation in the world that does not condemn what is happening in Gaza as genocide,” Maduro stated, emphasizing, “A ceasefire agreement was signed that has been violated every single day.”

In this regard, he affirmed that the American people oppose a new war and asked those present, “Do we want another Gaza in South America?” He asserted that in Venezuela, “peace and international law will prevail.”

The president reiterated in his address Venezuela’s commitment to peace and rejected any form of external intervention. “The order is peace. No to war. No to perpetual war and no to death. No, no, no.”

The participants of the meeting reaffirmed “their commitment to international law and human dignity, in contrast to historical models of domination by the strongest,” the president emphasized.

He also highlighted that the alliance of nations that defend international law represents an attempt to overcome unequal power dynamics and build an order based on cooperation, not imposition.

The Meeting of Jurists in Defense of International Law, convened on Thursday by the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, focused on the defense of international law against external aggression, amidst the deployment of US forces near the Venezuelan coast.

At the meeting, the president of the American Association of Jurists of Argentina, Claudia Rocca, formally proposed filing a complaint with the International Criminal Court against US President Donald Trump.

During the closing ceremony, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the importance of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, an entity created on September 16, which has facilitated the convening and unity of political, social, economic, cultural, and religious sectors throughout the country.

“This National Council for Sovereignty and Peace is a reality in all territories of our Republic,” stated Maduro, emphasizing that the initiative has transcended the borders of Caracas and has spread from north to south in all states and municipalities of the country.

The head of state emphasized that the Council represents “a balm of hope and optimism for a country that has peace, has won peace, wants peace and will win and will have the peace that our Venezuela, our America, our South America wants.”
