Venezuelan solidarity movement rejects pressure on the Cuban blockade

by Ed Newman

The Venezuela-Cuba National Movement of Mutual Friendship and Solidarity has rejected what it called pressure and fallacious arguments from the U.S. State Department on the blockade of the island.

In a statement, the solidarity group strongly denounced that these pressures are exerted in a “cynical and recurrent manner,” using tactics that border on “political and economic blackmail.”

The statement emphasizes that they are trying to induce sovereign nations to betray their history and their conscience, seeking to sway the vote in the United Nations General Assembly against the criminal blockade of Cuba, which will take place on October 28th and 29th.

The statement noted that this practice—disrespectful of self-determination—is yet another demonstration of imperial arrogance that seeks to subjugate the will of the people to its petty hegemonic interests.

“We celebrate and unreservedly support the brave and eloquent statement by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, who on the international stage exposed to the world the absurd and shameful maneuver orchestrated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio,” it stated.

The Movement indicated that this political pantomime, intended to justify another crushing defeat, “was nothing more than a pathetic attempt to hide the total isolation of US foreign policy.”

It predicted that the resounding victory Cuba will achieve at the United Nations will be irrefutable testimony that the world community repudiates, almost unanimously, Washington’s genocidal blockade and interventionist pretensions.

“The United States’ latest diplomatic defeat at the UN is not an isolated incident; it is the result of decades of a hostile and failed policy that runs counter to dignity and international law,” he emphasized.

He emphasized that it will demonstrate that Cuba enjoys the solidarity of peoples and governments on all continents and the isolation of a government that insists on subjugating the world through illegal sanctions, coercion, and lies.

“Once again,” he asserted, “the overwhelming majority of votes in favor of ending the blockade will send a clear message: the path of unilateralism and aggression is doomed to failure.”

The Friendship Movement reiterated its firm commitment to the brotherhood between Venezuela and Cuba, “two peoples united by a common history of resistance against the same empire,” he added.

He also called on the international community to remain firm in defending justice and sovereignty, and not to give in to the pretensions of a failing government that resorts to desperate tactics.

He predicted that this new Cuban victory at the UN General Assembly “will be a victory of truth, of the Cuban people, and of all peoples convinced that a multipolar and pluricentric world, based on respect, solidarity, and peace, is possible and urgent.”
