Havana, May 12 (JIT) - Arturo Silot (97 kg) closed with a silver medal Cuba's performance in the Pan American Wrestling Championship 2025, held in Monterrey, Mexico.
Silot, in freestyle, lost 4-5 in the final against American Justin Radamacher, and lost a new opportunity to become Pan American champion.
Silot's performance in the tournament started with technical superiority against Brazilian Aiton Brito (11-0) and then he won 8-1 against Cristian Sarco (Venezuela).
In the quarterfinals and semifinals, he defeated Canada's Nishan Randhawa (10-0) and Argentina's Ricardo Baez (10-0), respectively.
Cuba attended with eight gladiators and won seven medals and the same number of qualifiers for the World Wrestling Championship, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, from September 13 to 21.
The Greco-Roman style performed perfectly, with a trio of titles out of three possible, with Luis Orta (Havana, 67 kg), Gabriel Rosillo (Santiago de Cuba, 97 kg), and Oscar Pino (Havana, 130 kg). The other crown was won by Yainelis Sanz (57 kg) in women's wrestling.
In addition, bronze medals went to Havana wrestlers Yusneylis Guzmán (50 kg) and Milaimis Marín (76 kg).
Only Geannis Garzón (Santiago de Cuba, 74 kg) was left without a medal after being disqualified in his first bout, in freestyle. This could result in him not receiving a ticket to the world championship.
It remains to be seen if there was capacity to register the Cubans in the beach wrestling tournament, which starts this Monday.
