Washington, June 1 (PL) The New York Mets will seek their third consecutive victory today against the Colorado Rockies to remain at the top of the National League East Division in Major League Baseball (MLB).
With a record of 36 wins and 22 losses, the Mets climbed to the top of their division yesterday, tied with the Philadelphia Phillies, who were beaten 17-7 by the Milwaukee Brewers.
In yesterday's game, the New Yorkers defeated the Rockies (9-49) 8-2, backed by a 13-hit offense, including three home runs, which further sank the visitors to the bottom of the West Division of the old circuit.
Brandon Nimmo and Dominican Juan Soto hit their ninth home runs of the season, while Jeff McNeil added his third. Brett Baty also shone with a triple and three RBIs.
Japan's Kodai Senga earned the win after pitching six and a third innings, allowing two runs, one of which came off a home run by Venezuela's Ezequiel Tovar.
Antonio Senzatela took the loss, giving up seven runs in just four innings of work.
For today's game at Citi Field, the Mets announced right-hander Clay Holmes (5-3) as their starter, while the Rockies will rely on left-hander Carson Palmquist, who has a 0-3 record and a high ERA of 8.78 per game.
