Havana, Jun 16 (RHC) - The world record holder in the long jump category T46 Robiel Yankiel Sol brought today the first gold medal in a day of another two awards for Cuba in the Parathletics Grand Prix of Tunis 2025.
The double Paralympic champion was again in a stage without rivals, he dominated with 7.61 meters, almost one meter ahead of the Russian competing as a neutral athlete Dzmitry Bartashevich (6.63) and the Chinese Yize Zeng (5.82), both with records for their geographical areas.
Robiel has world record of 7.84 meters, but what he achieved in the aforementioned Copa Cuba is not enough to be registered as a record because it was among conventional athletes. However, he can do better and is confident in the next opportunities, especially the world championship scheduled for late September in New Delhi.
This Monday, Yamel Luis Vives also won the gold medal with a record for America in the 100 meters of the T44 category. He ran the hectometer in 11.10 seconds and left Bartashevich (11.70) and China's Ruihua Huang (11.90) in silver and bronze.
The silver medalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games had registered 11.36 seconds at the last Grand Prix in Cali, Colombia, and his record now was praised by coach Miriam Ferrer. This Tuesday he will return to the track for the 200 meters.
