Silinda Moraes
Havana, June 28 (RHC) - The victories of Silinda Morales and Daily Cooper at the Montgeron-Essonne Athletics Meeting in France added to the string of successes achieved by the Cubans who are training on European soil in preparation for their participation in the world championships in September.
Beyond the victory, it was pleasing to see Silinda rediscover her form in the 60-meter discus throw, as her first international appearance of the season had been very modest, with a mere 58.93 meters in the Spanish club tournament.
This time, she threw the implement 64.08 meters, the third-best mark of her life. Notably, her other three valid attempts were also close to that mark, with throws of 63.13, 62.53, and 63.52 meters.
The student of Hilda Elisa Ramos dominated on French soil ahead of fellow Cuban Denia Caballero (62.04), who does not represent the island's federation, and Germany's Antonia Kinzel (57.57).
On the track, despite failing to break the 2:00 minute barrier, Cooper continued to show progress with her victory, this time completing the 800 meters in 2:01.69 in a race without too many demands, keeping an eye on her rivals' times.
The Paris 2024 Olympic semifinalist, now relegated host Agathe Delahoutre (2:02.59), who achieved her personal best, to second place. Third place went to Algeria's Narimane Amara (2:04.30).
Cooper had finished second in the aforementioned club league final in Spain with a time of 2:01.57 minutes, and she took a similar place on the 22nd in Troyes-Aube with a time of 2:00.21, her best performances so far this season.
In that last race, she was seen to come back in the final meters to finish strong and secure a place among the winners.
