Raidel Martinez
Tokyo, Jun 18 (PL) Cuban pitcher Raidel Martínez remained unbeaten in the Japan Professional Baseball League, extending his streak to 26 innings and two-thirds without allowing runs and reaching his 22nd save of the season.
Originally from the province of Pinar del Río, Martínez retired in a row the three batters he faced, including two by strikeout, during a perfect inning, to secure the 2-1 victory of the Yomiuri Giants over the Nippon Ham Fighters.
In front of more than 42,000 fans at the Tokyo Dome, the supersonic reliever was once again effective and established himself as one of the best closers in the circuit, behind only Japan's Shinya Matsuyama, who on Wednesday earned his 26th save in the Central League.
After this result, the Antillean has a win-loss record, with 26 strikeouts in 26.2 innings pitched, only 13 hits allowed, and eight walks.
