Cuba and the the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have maintained for decades relations described as excellent and fruitful by both parties, which are interested and committed to continue strengthening them.

This was evidenced in a recent meeting in France between Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who highlighted the work of Cuba in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Grossi also expressed the organization's willingness to continue deepening the existing profitable bilateral cooperation.

Both parties are developing multiple joint projects that go beyond the Cuban territory and extend to other Latin American and Caribbean nations.

Taking into account the priorities of the Cuban authorities for the country's development, the IAEA has supported various initiatives in areas such as health, the environment, agriculture and personnel training.

The Caribbean country has benefited from NUTEC-Plastic, a plan to address the challenges of plastic pollution. It has also contributed its experience and knowledge, led by the Cienfuegos Center for Environmental Studies, which last year obtained IAEA collaborator status.

In the field of health, cooperation has been equally valuable, making it possible to strengthen capacities for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

And Cuba continues to join new projects of the international organization. Thus, it is one of the 25 nations that are part of “Atmos for Life”, which offers assistance in food production and food safety.

FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, also participates in this initiative, which seeks sustainable agricultural development, the optimization of water resources and the training of professionals.

Cuba and the International Atomic Energy Agency maintain a dynamic exchange and fruitful cooperation, which has resulted in benefits for the Antillean nation and other countries in the area.
