Moscow, Jun 25 (RHC) Today, 15-year-old Russian Maxim Ivannikov defeated 16th world chess champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, in the online tournament “Titled Tuesdays”, held on the website chess.com.

As the executive director of the Russian Chess Federation, Alexander Tkachev, told TASS news agency on Wednesday, the Norwegian grandmaster played with Black and the third round game ended on the 33rd move.

In January 2025, 14-year-old Russian David Akhmedov defeated Carlsen in the online tournament “Titled Tuesdays”.

Magnus Carlsen is the sixteenth world classical chess champion, leader of the world ranking, and refused to defend his title in a game against the Russian, Ian Nepomniachtchi in 2022.

Carlsen has also won the world rapid championship five times and the world blitz championship eight times.

“Titled Tuesdays”, is a weekly competition for players with international titles im which Blitz is played, and the tournament is held according to the Swiss system.

Blitz chess is a mode in which players have a reduced amount of time to complete the entire game. The most common time settings are games of three minutes per player, or five minutes, sometimes with an increment of seconds per move.
