Havana, March 29 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has described as very special the historical links that unite the peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

Rodríguez met Thursday with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh, who is here in Havana accompanying the secretary general of the Communist party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

The top Cuban diplomat said links between Hanoi and Havana are based on strong friendship, solidarity, mutual support and trust.

Foreign Minister Rodríguez recalled the visit of leader Fidel Castro to Vietnam in 1973.  Fidel was the first world leader to tour liberated areas in South Vietnam.  Minister Rodríguez also recalled the creation in Cuba of the first-ever committee of solidarity with the Vietnamese people.

He spoke highly of cooperation and exchanges between the foreign affairs ministries over the past nearly sixty years.

Vietnam's Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed satisfaction with this visit, saying it would contribute to expand cooperation links in areas of mutual interest.
