Havana, April 26 (RHC)-- More than 200 Cuban health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, arrived today in South Africa to contribute to that nation's efforts to prevent the spread of the SARS-Cov-2 virus, which causes COVID-19.

The brigade includes doctors, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, health technology engineers and biotechnology experts, all carefully selected to ensure extensive experience and knowledge in planning, execution and management of clinical cases, as well as in the public health response to the pandemic, said the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Cuban professionals will be deployed in different provinces of the country, in accordance with the strategic plans developed by the South African Department of Health.

Cuba has sent over 1,200 health specialists to 22 countries affected by COVID-19, at the request of those governments, and some 29,000 of its professionals are joining the efforts to combat the pandemic in 64 other nations with which there are intergovernmental health cooperation agreements.
