Moscow, June 12 (RHC)-- Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero paid tribute Monday to historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro (1926-2016) at the monument erected in his honor in the Moscow district of Sokol.

At the tribute attended by members of the government delegation visiting Russia since June 6, they laid a wreath on behalf of the Cuban government and people.

The sculpture that demonstrates the greatness and humility of this man paradigm of the world society, immortalizes the strategist of the Caribbean nation with a statue located in the square that bears his name since 2017.

The monument made of bronze has a height of three meters and was created in the Russian capital over half a year.

The unveiling of the monumental work was carried out on November 22, 2022 by the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who agreed then that Fidel Castro's legacy is fully valid, just when six years after his death were commemorated.

Earlier, the head of government of the Antillean country held a meeting with members of the Cuban state mission in Moscow, which was also attended by a representation of students of the scholarship plan of Russian universities for Cuba.

Marrero told those present about the actions being carried out to solve the impact of the economic situation the country is currently experiencing, intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

He also expressed his gratitude for the strategic role of the mission's officials in the process of strengthening bilateral relations between Havana and Moscow.

As a culmination of this day, the premier will meet with members of the Russia-Cuba Friendship Society, as well as the Internationalist Veterans and Europe for Cuba Movements, and other friends who for decades have raised their voices in defense of the sovereignty of the largest of the Antilles.

Marrero and his entourage arrived in Moscow from the Russian city of Sochi, where they participated in various events of the Eurasian Economic Union and took part in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the III Eurasian Congress.

The official visit to Russia will last until June 17, after the participation of the Head of Government in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. (Source:PL)
