Havana, May 3 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Friday his willingness to defend the achievements of the revolutionary process to the fullest extent and thus respond to the support shown by the people in the May Day mobilizations.
"Our people will never get down on our knees and will never be defeated," the head of state exclaimed at the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba and against anti-imperialism and the resurgence of fascism.
Díaz-Canel emphasized that, despite the campaigns to sabotage the Cuban Workers' Union's call to support the government, Cubans overwhelmingly expressed their approval. He also asserted that the Cuban people are an example of dignity for the world, and that they will not be subdued by the economic blockade and the other hostile measures imposed by Washington on the island.
"We can assure you that Cuba and its Revolution will remain upright, just as we have done until today, in the face of all attempts to destroy our work, and we will do so with your support," he emphasized.
However, he pointed out, we are not at this Solidarity Meeting solely for Cuba. "We are here for all the just causes of the peoples of the world and, above all, because we assume responsibility with those who believe, like Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, that a better world is possible," he stated.
The president called on solidarity organizations and citizens to increase their rejection of the U.S. blockade and to reinsert Cuba on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, unilaterally drawn up by the White House.
He also urged them to publicize the altruism and achievements of the Caribbean country's internationalist medical brigades, with the aim of defeating the smear campaign launched from US territory.
Díaz-Canel considered that "it would be a form of recognition for a cooperation program that has saved and dignified lives, and has restored hope to millions of people around the world." He urged representatives of Latin American and Caribbean nations to "actively participate in the ninth Latin American and Caribbean meeting of solidarity with Cuba, scheduled for October of this year in Mexico."
“We must also increase our solidarity actions with the noble Palestinian people and strongly denounce the genocide committed by the State of Israel with the complicity of the United States government,” he added.
The Cuban president stated that it is urgent to maintain and increase solidarity among the world's progressives to build a common front against policies that threaten less developed nations.
Diaz-Canel commented that 80 years after its defeat, fascism stalks humanity “promoting racial discrimination, xenophobic hatred, and ruthless violence that hits the working class the hardest.”
He emphasized that this trend is fostered by the hegemonic practices of the United States government.
