Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez rejected at the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the use of pretexts to threaten regional and international peace and stability.
At the X meeting, the island’s foreign minister emphasized that in his speech at the event, which is being held in Kampala, Uganda, he referred to the current US military deployment in the Caribbean, “disguised as anti-drug operations, in flagrant violation of international law.”
Faced with the danger of military aggression, Cuba reiterated its unwavering and full support for Venezuela and the Popular Military Union, led by the legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro.
“We call on the international community to mobilize to stop this attack and preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace,” Rodríguez stated.
He also denounced the United States government’s attacks against the United Nations and multilateral agreements essential to addressing global challenges, as well as the imposition of unilateral coercive measures against countries of the South, aimed at destabilization and domination.
The Non-Aligned Movement is a group of states, founded (as the NAM) during the Cold War in the second half of the 20th century, whose purpose was to maintain its neutral position and not ally itself with either of the superpowers, the Soviet Union or the United States.
