Cuban president appears on Round Table television program

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the National Defense Council (CDN), held the first assessment meeting from the Palace of the Revolution following Hurricane Melissa’s passage through eastern Cuba.

The meeting, broadcast live on the regular television program Round Table starting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, connected via videoconference with authorities from the most affected provinces to provide an update on the weather situation and coordinate immediate recovery efforts.

The prime time television program included live reports from the areas impacted by the weather event, as well as an overview of the initial measures taken to restore basic services and assist the affected population.

The National Disaster Management Committee (CDN) analyzed the extent of the damage and foccused on the implementation of strategies to ensure the safety of communities, the protection of essential resources, and the organization of support brigades in the most vulnerable areas.

The national broadcast provided the public with a comprehensive overview of the situation and the decisions made by the highest state and government authorities.

Participants included specialists from the Institute of Meteorology, who provided details on the evolution of the extreme hydrometeorological event and its potential lingering effects across the country.
