Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has criticized the meeting held this Thursday between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Cuban counterrevolutionary José Daniel Ferrer, in the context of humanitarian aid following Hurricane Melissa.
In a message posted on the social network X, Bruno Rodríguez asserted: “It is not surprising that the US Secretary of State meets with criminals, abusers of women and vulnerable people, notorious human rights violators, self-flagellating opportunists who blame others, and who disguise themselves as ‘opposition members’ to enrich themselves with US taxpayer money, which the Secretary himself openly gives them.”
The meeting between Rubio and Ferrer took place on Wednesday in Washington and, according to the US State Department, focused on the distribution of humanitarian aid to Cuba after Hurricane Melissa.
In his message, the Cuban foreign minister accused Marco Rubio of promoting a “corrupt and fraudulent personal agenda that seeks to exploit the suffering of the Cuban people, but will continue to fail.”
Ferrer and his family left Cuba on October 13th for the United States, under a bilateral agreement between Havana and Washington, mediated by the Vatican. At the time of his departure, Ferrer was the general coordinator of the counterrevolutionary organization Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) and had an extensive criminal record that included physical assaults against other citizens, including women, public disorder and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
Following the political agenda and financed by the United States, José Daniel Ferrer carried out instructions from violent Cuban exile organizations in Florida, including the extremist Cuban American National Foundation, where subversive plans, smear campaigns, and projects to economically strangle Cuba are coordinated. He went to the headquarters of that organization upon his arrival in Miami on October 13th.
After his departure from the country was confirmed, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its defense of national sovereignty “in the face of smear campaigns” and its commitment to preserving “peace and constitutional order.”
