Cuba denounces U.S. lies to justify aggression against Venezuela

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced on Tuesday that the United States is seeking to “normalize and legitimize” a military aggression against Venezuela, using false pretexts amidst a growing naval deployment in the Caribbean.

“We denounce the lies of the U.S. State Department, which, under the leadership of the corrupt and compulsive liar Secretary of State (Marco Rubio), is attempting to justify military aggression against Venezuela with false pretexts,” Rodríguez wrote on social media.

The Cuban top diplomat pointed out that, with the support of the media, they are trying to make aggression against a sovereign nation acceptable. “In plain sight, they are trying to normalize and legitimize aggression,” he emphasized.

Cuba’s foreign minister considered Washington’s attempt to link Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to drug trafficking and terrorism a “dishonest artifice,” scourges “that have only been promoted in this region by the U.S. government.”

The denunciation comes in a context of high military tension. The day before, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro stated that, faced with the threat posed by the U.S. deployment, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) have strengthened their “military power” and are “revitalized” and “deployed” throughout the country.

In statements to the press, the Venezuelan president referred to the fact that they have faced “16 weeks of threats, psychological aggression, and ambushes” with the U.S. military presence near their coasts.

According to the U.S. Navy, a battle group led by the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford arrived in the Caribbean on Sunday, with a complement of 4,000 personnel and dozens of military aircraft on board.

This deployment is part of “Operation Southern Spear,” announced last week by U.S. Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth. The operation, ordered by President Donald Trump, has the stated objective of combating “narco-terrorists” in the Western Hemisphere.
