Israeli security forces and settlers committed 57 violations against Palestinian journalists in the occupied territories in November, a source in the sector reported on Monday.
The Press Freedom Committee of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate accused the neighboring country of continuing its systematic escalation against the media.
In its monthly report, it indicated that the violations targeted journalistic work and directly endangered the lives of the professionals.
It also accused Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank of playing a key role in the campaign. It specified that the attacks included physical assaults, gunshot wounds, arrests, confiscation of equipment, and threats.
These actions “reflect a clear focus on silencing Palestinian journalists and deterring them from fulfilling their professional duty to expose the crimes of the occupation,” stated the Committee’s head, Muhammad al-Lahham.
“We call on the world to exert greater international pressure on Israel to force it to halt the daily attacks against journalists, and we also call for their protection,” he emphasized.
The Gaza Strip Government Press Office reported last week that 257 journalists have been killed by the army there since the start of its aggression against the territory on October 7, 2023.
The office revealed that in the latest incident, photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi was killed in a drone strike while filming the aftermath of the destruction in the southern city of Khan Younis.
In 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded the Guillermo Cano Prize to Palestinian journalists covering the conflict in recognition of their work.
The Palestinian National Council last month accused Israel of targeting journalists in the occupied territories with attacks aimed at silencing the truth and concealing its crimes.
It also criticized Israel’s refusal to allow international press access to Gaza following the implementation of a ceasefire on October 10th… a ceasefire that has been violated nearly 600 times by the Zionist regime of Israel.
