Havana, December 16 (RHC) – Spain’s Aitana Bonmatí and France’s Ousmane Dembélé stole the show at today’s The Best FIFA Football Awards gala, being recognized as the best female and male players, respectively.

The Spanish national team and Barcelona midfielder won the award for the third consecutive year, while the French star and PSG player celebrated his first win.

Sidelined with an injury, Bonmatí received recognition as the best player in both the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the UEFA Women’s European Championship, despite Spain and Barcelona’s defeat in the final.

The 27-year-old Spaniard orchestrated Barça’s play to secure the national treble.

For his part, Dembélé led PSG to their first Champions League title and was a key player in their victories in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

In the coaches’ category, Spaniard Luis Enrique added The Best award to his career, thanks to PSG’s Champions League triumph and runner-up finish at the Club World Cup.

England’s manager, Sarina Wiegman, deservedly won the award for the fifth time, thanks to her team’s success at the European Championship, where they defeated the reigning world champions, Spain, in a thrilling penalty shootout final.
