Italian League Football Match Planned for Australia Was Cancelled

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, December 22 (RHC) – Italian football league officials confirmed today the cancellation of the Italian football league match between AC Milan and Como, scheduled to be played on February 8, 2026, in Australia.

According to a joint statement from Serie A and the Australian government, the financial risks posed by the additional conditions imposed by the Asian Football Confederation forced the cancellation of the match.

The game, the first Serie A match played outside of Italy, had received the approval of all 20 clubs in the league, the Italian Football Federation, and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

Last week, Serie A President Ezio Simonelli announced on Mediaset that the match would be played in Perth after a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Simonelli lamented the cancellation, calling it a missed opportunity for Italian football.
