Declaration of the Revolutionary Government: Cuba condemns and denounces new escalation of U.S. economic blockade

by Ed Newman

The Revolutionary Government of Cuba condemned this Thursday in the strongest terms a new and extreme escalation of the economic blockade imposed by the United States, aimed at completely blocking fuel supplies to the Island.

The action, carried out through an executive order from the US President dated January 29, declares a supposed “national emergency” to impose tariffs on countries that trade oil with Cuba.

In an official statement, the Cuban government denounced that this measure, justified with “an extensive list of lies and defamatory accusations,” constitutes a flagrant violation of International Law and an attack against the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

The text rejects the absurd assertion that Cuba represents an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security and accuses the U.S. administration of resorting to blackmail and coercion against third countries to consolidate its hegemonic policy.

“The United States government has reached this point after failing for 67 years to subdue and destroy a genuine and legitimate political and revolutionary process,” the Declaration states, reaffirming Cuba’s willingness to engage in respectful dialogue and the irrevocable determination of its people to defend national sovereignty against aggression.

Due to its importance, we are transmitting the full text published on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Cuba condemns and denounces the new escalation of the U.S. economic blockade

Declaration of the Revolutionary Government

The Revolutionary Government condemns in the strongest terms the new escalation by the United States government against Cuba, in its efforts to impose an absolute blockade on fuel supplies to our country.

The US President’s executive order, announced on January 29, 2026, declares a supposed national emergency, under which his government can impose tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba.

To justify such an extreme action, the text of the order presents an extensive list of lies and defamatory accusations against Cuba. Among them is the absurd assertion that Cuba constitutes an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security of the United States. The President and his administration are well aware that few, if any, believe such mendacious arguments, but they don’t care. Such is their contempt for truth, public opinion, and governmental ethics when it comes to justifying their aggression against Cuba.

With this decision, the United States government, through blackmail, threats, and direct coercion of third countries, attempts to impose additional pressure on the economic strangulation measures implemented since Trump’s first term to prevent fuel from entering our country. It consolidates a dangerous approach to conducting US foreign policy through force and exercising its ambitions to guarantee its imperialist hegemony. As announced, the United States is claiming the right to dictate to sovereign states which nations they can trade with and to which they can export their national products.

The executive order of the President of the United States therefore constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and also undermines the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace. It confirms that it is the US government that is threatening the security, stability, and peace of the region and the world.

The United States government has reached this point after failing for 67 years to subdue and destroy a genuine and legitimate political and revolutionary process, characterized by full sovereignty, social justice, and the promotion of peace and solidarity with the rest of the world.

Cuba’s historical willingness to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with the United States government, based on international law, sovereign equality, mutual respect, and reciprocal benefit, without interference in internal affairs and with absolute respect for the independence and sovereignty of states, is widely documented.

As everyone knows, including the U.S. government itself, Cuba poses no threat whatsoever to the United States, its national interests, or the well-being of its citizens, who have always been treated with respect and hospitality when their government has allowed them to visit the island. Cuba does not threaten or attack any country. It is not subject to sanctions by the international community. It is a country of peace, solidarity.

As everyone knows, including the U.S. government itself, Cuba poses no threat whatsoever to the United States, its national interests, or the well-being of its citizens, who, moreover, have always been treated with respect and hospitality when their government has allowed them to visit the island. Cuba does not threaten or attack any country. It is not subject to sanctions by the international community.  It is a peaceful, supportive, and cooperative country, willing to help and contribute to other nations.

It is also the country of a courageous and resilient people. Imperialism is mistaken when it believes that economic pressure and the determination to inflict suffering on millions will break Cuba’s resolve to defend its national sovereignty and prevent it from falling, once again, under U.S. domination.

The international community faces the unavoidable challenge of determining whether a crime of this nature will be a sign of things to come, or whether reason, solidarity, and the rejection of aggression, impunity, and abuse will prevail.

We will face this new onslaught with firmness, equanimity, and the certainty that reason is absolutely on our side. The decision is clear:  Patria o Muerte!   Homeland or Death!   Venceremos!   We Will Win!
