Representatives from Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela in Ethiopia reaffirmed their governments’ support for Cuba, amidst a solidarity campaign that continues today in rejection of the United States’ blockade against the Caribbean island.
The Mexican ambassador in Addis Ababa, Alejandro Estivill Castro, expressed his gratitude for participating in the solidarity event organized by Ethiopian friendship associations formed in Havana and affirmed that the heart of the Aztec nation is and always will be with Cuba.
For his part, the Colombian ambassador, Yeison Meneses Copete, emphasized that the connection between peoples is the only way to face the current challenge. He denounced the aggressiveness of Washington’s extraterritorial policy, which puts many lives, the right to sovereignty, and the community and tranquility of the region at risk.
Meneses Copete also emphasized that this is an attack on all the progress made in human rights, while thanking the organizers for the invitation to the event to reject the unilateral measures against Cuba.
He highlighted the solidarity and ties with the peoples of the world that have characterized the Caribbean nation throughout the years.
The Venezuelan ambassador to Ethiopia, Eddy Córdova Córcega, called for raising voices of denunciation and breaking the media silence surrounding what is happening in Cuba. In this regard, he invited people to replicate the solidarity actions throughout the African nation.
Córdova Córcega stated that the absence of major media outlets at the event is irrelevant because each person present will know how to amplify the message that Cuba is not alone.
He considered the Cuban people’s experience of resistance an example for the rest of the world. The Cuban Revolution has long been saying what the path is: no to imperialism, and any support for imperialism is an attack against all of humanity, he asserted.
He reiterated the call for all Ethiopian solidarity associations to replicate the experience in the rest of the country as a pause to raise the message that Cuba is not alone.
